Prowler Power atamaran

Often there is considerable overlap in different uses for a boat and the features that make the Prowler NZ 10.4 an ideal vessel for family ownership also make it ideal for charter operators.

Easy Operation
The narrow hulls are resistant to side slip and this factor combined with the manoeuvrability provided by the widely separated propellors, make driving the Prowler NZ 10.4 as easy as it gets. Visibility from the helm station is superb with all 4 corners of the boat easy to see, such a help when getting in and out of tight spaces.

Fuel Efficiency
The unique hull design is extraordinarily efficient through its entire speed range and due to its displacement configuration has no hump to get over to get on the plane. Thus it is suitable for lower horsepower where slower speeds are required. Fitted with a pair of 60hp motors the Prowler NZ 10.4 has sparkling performance and will reach speeds in the low 20's and cruise in the high teens. However, with a pair of 40hp cruising in the low to mid teens and would have plenty of grunt to push into a head wind and sea. If the use was on very sheltered areas then engines as small as 15hp could be used which would still give 10 or 12 knots. Clearly this is a lot of boat to move so well with such little power and the fuel consumption reflects that. This boat is economical with a capital E.

Size
While the Prowler NZ 10.4 can comfortably accommodate 2 couples and 2 children with its separate cabins and 2 heads, it is not too large to be easily handled by 1 couple. Thus the potential market is both larger groups wanting to socialise or a romantic escape for 1 couple. Large windows provide great 360° visibility from the spacious saloon and galley, but the bedrooms and heads are tucked away in the hulls making them very private. The two double cabins are well separated giving great privacy from sight and sound at night. The cockpit has seating for the entire ships crew and the twin swim ladders and easy to use dinghy davits make water access from the Prowler NZ 10.4 great whether swimming, fishing, or exploring.

Outboards
Modern 4 stroke outboards are simply superb. They are quiet, smooth, self contained, very cost effective, and can be removed and replaced in a matter of minutes. If operating a small fleet, one spare motor can keep you operating in a peak period instead of down time. When sitting on a mooring or marina the motors are tilted clear of the water. This is not only great from a maintenance perspective but also means, thanks to modern composite skin fittings, you have no metal in the water. No anodes and no thoughts even of electrolysis.

Shallow Draft
The shallow draft opens up many areas, and with the propellors protected by the canoe body even when down, soft groundings do not present a problem. The Prowler NZ 10.4 makes very little wash at any speed making her popular around other boats. Widely spaced hulls not only provide great space in the saloon and galley, but also make a very stable platform, ideal for novice sailors.

Survey
The Prowler NZ 10.4 has been designed so that all doorways, hatches etc comply with survey regulations. Our engineers High Modulus are currently analysing the scantlings for USL code compliance to see whether any alterations are required. In 2009 the Prowler NZ 10.4 will be available as a specific charter model ready for service.
